Why We Created Rusty's

My mother was the ultimate hostess. One of my fondest childhood memories is walking into my mother's kitchen to the smell of peanut brittle cooking - fresh peanuts, sugar boiling, and that hint of vanilla. That smell meant that the holiday season was nearing. Nancy shared her peanut brittle with what seemed like half of the United States. 

We started making Gran's recipe one Christmas when we were out of original gift ideas. Our friends and family went crazy over the fact we'd "perfected" Gran's gift. We've never looked back. 

 

We hope you will love it as much as Gran loved making it.

Here is why I'm making these suggestions:

  • Branding - I'd make it a point always to say "handmade" when referring to Rusty's Peanut Brittle.
  • Reviews - Seth's review, a part of his Google review, is a valuable asset. We should seek his permission to feature it, along with a picture and a social proof link (the link to Seth's Google profile). This review strategy, borrowed from Amazon, will enhance Rusty's brand's credibility and trustworthiness.
  • Club Member - Take advantage of an opportunity to create an internal link to a crucial page, such as the Peanut Brittle Club page link below Seth's social proof.
  • Sharing - I added a CTA about family recipes to Rusty's copy, asking visitors to share their recipes. Don't be surprised if it takes TIME to receive responses on a request for help, but asking shows you are having a conversation, not simply pitching.
  • Rusty vs. Barn - Rusty's copy is excellent, but as you can see from their site, they need to have people on their homepage. People help warm a site up and make it feel friendly. I put a picture of a peanut farmer next to Rusty's About copy. Visitors' eyes go to where the eyes of your models are looking, so I like that you look directly out at the visitor, welcoming them and building trust and credibility.
